Formation

B36 Tórshavn, a prominent Faroese football club, was officially founded on March 28, 1936, although its players had already been competing in matches since 1935. The club emerged from a growing interest in football among the youth of Tórshavn, who sought an opportunity to play outside of the existing club, HB Tórshavn. Entrepreneur Niels Ejdesgaard spearheaded the initiative, becoming the first chairman. The club quickly established itself in the local football scene, sharing the Gundadalur Stadium with its rivals and engaging in fierce derby matches during its inaugural season.

Early Success and Challenges

B36 Tórshavn celebrated its first national championship in 1946, marking the beginning of a successful era that included multiple league titles and a national cup victory in 1965. However, the club faced significant challenges in the following decades, including a 35-year wait for another national championship after their fifth title in 1962. The 1980s were particularly tough, with the club experiencing relegation twice from the top division. A turning point came in 1987 when new leadership under chairman Kristian á Neystabø and cashier Kjartan Mohr initiated a rebuilding phase, leading to improved performance and a cup win in 1991.

Honours and Legacy

B36 Tórshavn has since established itself as one of the most successful clubs in the Faroe Islands, boasting a total of 11 Faroe Islands Premier League titles and 7 Faroe Islands Cup victories. Their most recent league triumphs came in 2014 and 2015, while they also secured the Faroe Islands Super Cup in 2007. The club's rich history and resilience in the face of adversity have solidified its place in Faroese football, making it a beloved institution in Tórshavn and beyond.
