Yōichi Doi

Early Life

Yōichi Doi was born on July 25, 1973, in Kumamoto, Japan. He developed a passion for football at a young age, which led him to pursue a career in the sport. After graduating from high school, he joined Hitachi, which later became known as Kashiwa Reysol, in 1992.

Career

Doi's professional career began with Kashiwa Reysol, where he played from 1992 to 1999. During his time there, he faced competition for the goalkeeper position, particularly from Ryuji Kato and later Yuta Minami. In 2000, he transferred to FC Tokyo, where he made a significant impact, helping the team win the J.League Cup in 2004 and earning the MVP award for his performance. Doi played consistently until 2006, but his playing time diminished in 2007, leading to his move to Tokyo Verdy in 2008. He played every match in his first season with Verdy, although the team was relegated to the J2 League. Doi continued to play until 2012, when he retired from professional football.

In addition to his club career, Doi represented the Japan national team, making his debut on February 7, 2004, against Malaysia. He was part of the squad that won the 2004 Asian Cup, although he faced stiff competition for the starting goalkeeper position from Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi and Seigo Narazaki. Doi earned four caps for Japan until 2005 and was selected for the national team during the 2006 World Cup qualifiers.

Post-Retirement

After retiring from professional play, Yōichi Doi transitioned into coaching and is currently the goalkeeper coach for J2 League club Yokohama FC, where he continues to contribute to the development of future football talent in Japan.
