Formation and Early Years
Agrupación Deportiva Alcorcón S.A.D., commonly known as AD Alcorcón, was founded in 1971 by Dionisio Muñoz Jerez, with the founding act signed on July 20 of that year. The club is based in Alcorcón, located in the autonomous community of Madrid. For the first three decades, Alcorcón oscillated between the fourth division and regional leagues, playing its inaugural match on September 8, 1971, against Atlético Madrid's youth team, which they lost 0-2. The team made its debut in Segunda División B during the 2000-01 season, finishing in 12th place and maintaining mid-table positions in subsequent seasons.
Rise to Prominence
A significant turning point came in the 2008-09 season when Alcorcón finished third in the regular season, qualifying for the promotion play-offs for the first time. Although they reached the final round, they were eliminated by Real Unión of Irun with a 3-1 aggregate score. However, the club's most notable achievement occurred during the 2009-10 Copa del Rey, where they stunned the football world by defeating La Liga giants Real Madrid 4-0 at home in the first leg of their round-of-32 match. This victory remains one of the most famous moments in the club's history, showcasing their potential against top-tier teams.
