Биография
Formation and Early Years
Entente Sportive Sétifienne, commonly known as ES Sétif or ESS, was founded in 1958 by Ali Benaouda and Ali Layass in Sétif, Algeria. Initially, the club was named Entente Sportive Sétifienne, but it underwent several name changes over the years, including Entente Pétroliers Sétifienne in 1977 and Entente Plastique Sétifienne in 1984, before reverting to its original name. The club's colors were initially green and white, but they changed to black and white in mourning for the victims of a confrontation with the French Army on May 8, 1945, during a match against FC Gadir. The club's home ground, originally known as Guessab Stadium, has a current capacity of 18,000 spectators at the 8 May 1945 Stadium.
Achievements and Influence
ES Sétif is recognized as one of the prestigious clubs in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, having won the Algerian Cup eight times. Notably, they made history in 1988 by winning the African Cup of Champions Clubs, defeating Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Nigeria 4–1 on aggregate in the final. This victory was particularly remarkable as ES Sétif was competing in the Algerian second division at the time, making them the only club in Africa to win this prestigious title while not being in the top flight. Their success in Africa continued with a win in the Afro-Asian Club Championship in 1989, further solidifying their status in continental football.
Leadership and Legacy
Since its inception, ES Sétif has had 19 presidents, with Ibrahim Dokomi being the first. The current president is Hassan Hammar. The club's rich history and achievements have made it a significant part of Algerian football culture, contributing to the sport's development in the region and inspiring future generations of players and fans alike.
