José María Basanta is an Argentine former professional footballer born in Argentina, who made a significant mark in the world of football as a centre-back. He began his career in 2003 with Estudiantes de La Plata, where he quickly showcased his defensive skills and potential.

Career

Basanta's journey in professional football took off when he joined Estudiantes, but it was his time with Olimpo de Bahía Blanca in 2006 that truly set the stage for his future. He played a crucial role in helping Olimpo secure promotion to the Primera Division by winning both the Apertura and Clausura titles. After a brief return to Estudiantes in 2007, he made a pivotal move to Club de Fútbol Monterrey in 2008, where he became a key player under manager Ricardo La Volpe. During his tenure at Monterrey, Basanta won multiple titles, including three Liga MX championships and four CONCACAF Champions League titles.
