Akihiro Nishimura

Early Life

Akihiro Nishimura was born on August 8, 1958, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He pursued his education at Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences, where he developed his passion for football, laying the groundwork for his future career in the sport.

Playing Career

Nishimura began his professional football journey in 1981 when he joined Yammer Diesel, a local club that would later become known as Cerezo Osaka. During his decade-long tenure with the club, he made a significant impact, playing 148 league matches and scoring 3 goals. His contributions helped the team secure the JSL Cup in both 1983 and 1984, and he was recognized as a Best Eleven player in 1982. In addition to his club success, Nishimura was a key player for the Japan men's national football team from 1980 to 1988, earning 49 caps and scoring 2 goals. He represented Japan in various international competitions, including the 1984 Summer Olympics qualification and the 1986 World Cup qualification.

Coaching Career

After retiring from professional play in 1991, Nishimura transitioned into coaching, starting with Matsushita Electric, which later became Gamba Osaka. His coaching career included a notable stint as the manager of the Japan U-20 national team, where he led the squad at the 2001 World Youth Championship in Argentina. In September 2001, he returned to Cerezo Osaka as a coach and later became the manager, guiding the team to a second-place finish in the Emperor's Cup. However, his time at Cerezo ended in October 2003, and he subsequently managed Kyoto Purple Sanga before being dismissed in June 2004.
