Cambalhota's professional journey began at Grêmio Esportivo Novorizontino in 1993, where he played until 1995. He then had a brief stint at CR Vasco da Gama before moving to Santos F.C. in 1996. His time at Santos was marked by success, as he returned to the club for a second spell from 1998 to 1999, contributing to their Copa CONMEBOL victory in 1998. In 1999, he joined FC Porto, where he won the Taça de Portugal and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira during the 1999-2000 season.

Throughout his career, Cambalhota played for several clubs, including Júbilo Iwata in Japan, S.C. Corinthians Paulista, and Cruzeiro E.C. He also had international experiences with clubs like Kuwait SC and Denizlispor in Turkey. Notably, he made one appearance for the Brazil national team in 1999, representing his country on the international stage. His career spanned various teams until his last known club, Grêmio Novorizontino, in 2012.
