Early Life

Andreu Fontàs Prat was born in Banyoles, Girona, Catalonia, where he began his football journey at a young age. He spent 11 years developing his skills at CD Banyoles before joining the prestigious youth system of FC Barcelona. Initially starting as a defensive midfielder, Fontàs was transformed into a central defender by the B team's coach, Luis Enrique, who recognized his potential in a more defensive role.

Career

Fontàs made his professional debut for FC Barcelona's first team on August 31, 2009, in a La Liga match against Sporting de Gijón. His early career saw him primarily with the reserves, but he quickly made an impact, notably assisting in an 8-0 victory against UD Almería in November 2010. He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal on December 7, 2010, against FC Rubin Kazan, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively from the back.

In March 2011, following Eric Abidal's health issues, Fontàs was promoted to the senior team on a permanent basis. He enjoyed significant success with Barcelona, winning multiple titles including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League. After leaving Barcelona in 2013, he played for several clubs, including RC Celta de Vigo and Sporting Kansas City, before transitioning into coaching as an assistant manager at Omiya Ardija in the J2 League.
