CS Mioveni

Foundation and rise through the divisions (2000–2011)

The club was founded in 2000 under the name AS Mioveni (Asociația Sportivă Mioveni). After spending one season in Liga IV, AS Mioveni merged with Dacia Pitești in 2001 and took its place in Liga III. Following the merger, the club was renamed AS Dacia Mioveni and shortly afterwards became CS Dacia Mioveni. In its first season in the national leagues, Dacia finished 3rd in its Liga III series. The following campaign brought the club's first major success, as it won Series IV of Liga III and earned promotion to Liga II in the summer of 2003. Dacia spent the next four seasons in the second tier. At the end of the 2006–07 season, the club finished runners-up in Series II of Liga II and earned promotion to Liga I for the first time in its history. The 2007–08 season was Dacia's first campaign in the Romanian top flight. The team finished 16th and was relegated after one season, but also produced one of the most notable cup runs in the club's history. Dacia reached the semi-finals of the Cupa României, having eliminated Dinamo București 1–0 in the quarter-finals, before losing to eventual winners CFR Cluj. In the summer of 2010, the club dropped the Dacia name and was renamed CS Mioveni. The change marked the end of the formal association of the football team's name with Automobile Dacia.
