CSM Flacăra Moreni

The club was founded in 1922 by English and Dutch engineers working at the local oil facilities of the Astra Română refinery, under the name Astra Română Moreni, with the aim of encouraging workers and employees to practise sport. In 1950, the club was renamed Partizanul Moreni, before adopting the name Flacăra Moreni one year later. Following a merger with local rivals Automecanica Moreni in 1977, the club competed as Flacăra Automecanica Moreni, before returning to the name Flacăra Moreni in 1985. Flacăra spent most of its history in Divizia B and Divizia C, but earned promotion to Divizia A in 1986. The club achieved its greatest domestic performance in the 1988–89 season, finishing fourth and qualifying for the 1989–90 UEFA Cup. In its only European campaign, Flacăra was eliminated in the first round by FC Porto, losing 4–1 on aggregate. Following the Romanian Revolution, Flacăra declined rapidly, being relegated from Divizia A in 1990 and later dropping through the lower divisions. After relegation from Divizia B in 1995, the club spent more than a decade in the third tier before falling to Liga IV in 2007. Flacăra gradually rebuilt and returned to Liga III in 2016 after defeating Voința Crevedia in the promotion play-off, remaining a regular third-tier side during the following years. The club was relegated on sporting merit at the end of the 2024–25 season, but retained its place in Liga III after the Romanian Football Federation filled vacancies in the competition.…
