Dražan Jerković

Early Life

Dražan Jerković was born in 1936 in Croatia and became a prominent figure in the world of football. His career spanned over a decade, during which he made significant contributions both as a player and later as a manager. Jerković passed away on December 6, 2008, in Zagreb, leaving behind a legacy in Croatian football.

Playing Career

Jerković began his professional career in 1954 with GNK Dinamo Zagreb, where he played until 1965. During his time at Dinamo, he became a prolific forward, scoring an impressive 300 goals in 315 appearances. His remarkable performance helped the team secure the league title in 1958 and the league cup in 1960 and 1965. In 1965, he moved to KAA Gent, where he played until 1966.

International Career

On the international stage, Jerković represented Yugoslavia from 1960 to 1964, earning 21 caps and scoring 11 goals. He was a key player in the 1960 European Championship, where he scored two goals against France in the semifinal, leading Yugoslavia to a second-place finish. Jerković also participated in the 1962 FIFA World Cup, where he was one of the top scorers, netting four goals and helping his team reach the semifinals.

Managerial Career

After retiring from playing, Jerković transitioned into management and became the first manager of the Croatia national team after the country gained independence, serving from 1990 to 1992. His contributions to Croatian football, both on and off the pitch, have solidified his status as a significant figure in the sport's history.
