Eijun Kiyokumo

Early Life

Eijun Kiyokumo was born on September 11, 1950, in Koshu, Japan. He pursued his education at Hosei University, where he honed his skills in football, setting the stage for a successful career in the sport.

Playing Career

Kiyokumo began his professional career in 1973 when he joined Furukawa Electric, which later became known as JEF United Chiba. During his time with the club, he made a significant impact, helping the team secure the Japan Soccer League championship in 1976 and the Emperor's Cup. He also contributed to the club's victories in the JSL Cups in 1977 and 1982. Over his playing career, Kiyokumo appeared in 149 league matches and scored six goals, earning recognition as one of the Best Eleven in 1974, 1975, and 1976. He also represented the Japan national team, debuting on September 28, 1974, against South Korea, and participated in various international competitions, including the 1976 Summer Olympics qualification and the 1980 Summer Olympics qualification, amassing 42 caps until 1980.

Coaching Career

After retiring from playing in 1982, Kiyokumo transitioned into coaching, taking over as manager of Furukawa Electric in 1984. Under his leadership, the club won the 1985–86 Japan Soccer League and the 1986 JSL Cup, and he guided them to become the first Japanese club to win the Asian Club Championship in 1986. Kiyokumo later served as a coach for the Japan national team and managed JEF United Ichihara until 1995. In 1998, he took on the role of manager for the Japan U-20 national team and later became the general manager of Omiya Ardija in 1999, eventually returning to a managerial position in 2003. Kiyokumo's contributions to Japanese football, both as a player and a coach, have left a lasting legacy in the sport.
