Fernando Picun

Early Life

Fernando Álvaro Picún de León was born in Uruguay, where he developed a passion for football from a young age. His journey in the sport began early, leading him to pursue a career as a professional football player.

Career

Picún's professional career took off when he joined Club Atlético River Plate in 1993, where he played until 1996. His impressive performances earned him a move to Feyenoord Rotterdam, where he played from 1996 to 1998. After his stint in the Netherlands, he returned to South America, playing for Defensor Sporting Club (1998-1999) and then Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan (1999-2000). He briefly returned to Uruguay to play for Danubio F.C. in 2001. Throughout his club career, Picún was known for his defensive skills and tactical awareness.

In addition to his club success, Picún represented the Uruguay men's national football team from 1996 to 1999. He was part of the squad that competed in the 1999 Copa América held in Paraguay, where Uruguay finished as runners-up.
