FK Shkëndija

Formation

KF Shkëndija, commonly known as Shkëndija, is a professional football club based in Tetovo, North Macedonia. Founded on August 27, 1979, by members of the local Albanian community, the club emerged from a multi-sport society and adopted red-and-black as its colors. Shkëndija quickly gained popularity, drawing large local support and climbing the ranks of the Yugoslav football pyramid. However, due to its nationalist connotations, the club was dissolved in the early 1980s and remained inactive for nearly a decade.

Re-establishment and Rise

Following the independence of Macedonia in 1991, Shkëndija was re-established in 1992 and began competing in the lower regional leagues. The club made significant strides, finishing as runners-up in the Second League (West) in the 1994-95 season and winning promotion to the First League in 1996-97. After several seasons of fluctuating between the top two tiers, Shkëndija returned to the top flight in 2000 and reached its first national cup final in 2006, although they lost to Makedonija G.P. 3-2.

Recent Success

In recent years, Shkëndija has solidified its status as a dominant force in Macedonian football, winning the First Macedonian Football League title five times, with championships in 2010-11, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2020-21, and 2024-25. The club has also claimed the Macedonian Cup twice and won the Macedonian Football Supercup in 2011. With a modern home at the Ecolog Arena, Shkëndija continues to be a symbol of pride for the Albanian community in North Macedonia and a competitive team in the league.
