Hideki Maeda

Early Life

Hideki Maeda was born on May 13, 1954, in Kyoto, Japan. He pursued his education at Hosei University, where he honed his skills in football, setting the stage for a successful career in the sport.

Playing Career

Maeda began his professional career in 1977 when he joined Furukawa Electric, which later became known as JEF United Chiba. Over the course of his 12-year tenure with the club, he made a significant impact, playing 209 matches and scoring 35 goals. His contributions helped the team secure the Japan Soccer League championship in the 1985-86 season, as well as victories in the 1986 JSL Cup and the 1986 Asian Club Championship. Maeda's talent was recognized when he was selected for the Best Eleven in both 1980 and 1982.

In addition to his club success, Maeda represented the Japan men's national football team from 1975 to 1984. He made his debut on August 4, 1975, against Bangladesh while still a student at Hosei University. Throughout his international career, he played 65 matches and scored 11 goals, serving as captain in the early 1980s and participating in the 1978 Asian Games.

Coaching Career

After retiring from professional play in 1989, Maeda transitioned into coaching. He began his coaching career at JEF United Ichihara in 1994, later managing the youth team in 1997. He moved on to manage Yokogawa Electric from 1998 to 1999 and then took the helm at Mito HollyHock from 2003 to 2007, continuing to influence the sport from the sidelines.
