Hisashi Kaneko

Early Life

Hisashi Kaneko was born on September 12, 1959, in Saitama, Japan. He developed a passion for football at a young age, which led him to pursue a career in the sport after graduating from high school.

Career

Kaneko began his professional career in 1978 when he joined Furukawa Electric, now known as JEF United Chiba. Over his 14-year tenure with the club, he made significant contributions to the team's success. He played a pivotal role in winning the 1982 JSL Cup and was a regular player during the club's triumphant 1985–86 season, where they clinched the Japan Soccer League title and the 1986 JSL Cup. His outstanding performances earned him selections to the Best Eleven in both the 1985–86 and 1986–87 seasons. Notably, Kaneko was part of the squad that won the 1986 Asian Club Championship, marking a historic achievement as it was the first time a Japanese club secured the title. He retired from professional football in 1992.

In addition to his club career, Kaneko represented Japan on the international stage. He was selected for the Japan U-20 national team for the 1979 World Youth Championship and made his debut for the senior national team on July 25, 1986, against Syria. He also participated in the 1986 Asian Games and was part of the squad for the 1988 Summer Olympics qualification, ultimately playing 7 matches and scoring 1 goal for Japan until 1987.
