John van Loen

Early Life

Johannes Maria van Loen, known as John van Loen, is a former Dutch football player and manager. Born in the Netherlands, he began his football journey at FC Utrecht, where he played from 1983 to 1988. His early career laid the foundation for a successful trajectory in professional football.

Career

Van Loen's career spanned several clubs and countries. After his time at FC Utrecht, he moved to Roda JC Kerkrade (1988-1990) and then to R.S.C. Anderlecht (1990-1991), where he won the Belgian First Division. In 1991, he joined AFC Ajax, contributing to their UEFA Cup victory in 1992. Following Ajax, he played for Feyenoord Rotterdam (1993-1995), where he won the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. His international career included seven caps for the Netherlands national team, during which he participated in the 1986 FIFA World Cup Qualification and the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, scoring one goal for his country.

After a brief stint with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Japan, he returned to FC Utrecht (1996-1998) before finishing his playing career at APOEL F.C. (1998-1999). Van Loen later transitioned into management, taking the helm at various clubs, including Locomotive Tbilisi.

Legacy

Throughout his career, van Loen earned numerous honors, including the KNVB Cup with Utrecht and multiple titles with Ajax and Feyenoord. His contributions to Dutch football, both as a player and a manager, have left a lasting impact on the sport in the Netherlands.
