Early Life

Johnny Leoni is a Swiss former professional footballer born in Switzerland, who made a name for himself as a goalkeeper. He began his football journey at a young age, eventually joining FC Sion in 2001, where he honed his skills for two years before moving to FC Zürich in 2003.

Career

Leoni's career took off at FC Zürich, where he became the first-choice goalkeeper during the 2005–06 season, taking over from Davide Taini. His impressive performances included saving three penalty kicks in a crucial Swiss Cup quarterfinal against FC Aarau. His talent caught the eye of national team coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, leading to his inclusion in four Swiss national team squads, although he did not make an appearance until 2011. He earned his first cap on August 10, 2011, in a friendly match against Liechtenstein.

In 2012, Leoni signed with AC Omonia, where he played a pivotal role in winning the Supercup of Cyprus. He later had a brief loan spell at Neftchi Baku in Azerbaijan before continuing his career with various clubs, including a return to FC Le Mont and a stint at AC Nagano Parceiro starting in 2016. Throughout his career, Leoni demonstrated resilience and adaptability, contributing significantly to each team he played for.
