Chiba's professional career took off when he joined AGOVV Apeldoorn in 2004, where he played until 2005. He then moved to FC Dordrecht for a brief stint in the same year before returning to Japan to play for Albirex Niigata from 2005 to 2011. During his time at Albirex, he established himself as a reliable defender, which led to his subsequent signing with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2012. With Sanfrecce, Chiba enjoyed significant success, winning the J1 League title in 2012, 2013, and 2015, as well as the Japanese Super Cup in 2013, 2014, and 2016.
