Koji Kondo

Early Life

Koji Kondo was born on April 28, 1972, in Kariya, Japan. He showed an early passion for football, which led him to pursue the sport seriously during his high school years at Shizuoka Gakuen High School. His dedication and talent in football paved the way for his professional career.

Career

Kondo began his professional journey in 1991 when he joined Matsushita Electric, which later became known as Gamba Osaka. Over the course of his career with the club, he played from 1991 to 1998, making a significant impact as a versatile player, primarily in the midfielder and side-back positions. Throughout his time at Gamba Osaka, he participated in 133 league matches and scored 4 goals.

His international career with the Japan men's national football team was brief but notable. Kondo made his debut on May 22, 1994, in a match against Australia, where he played as a right side-back. He also represented Japan in a match against France shortly after his debut.

Tragically, Kondo's career was cut short due to a serious health issue. During the 1996 Emperor's Cup, he suffered a head injury that led to the discovery of a brain tumor. This incident marked the end of his playing days, and he left Gamba Osaka in June 1998, leaving behind a legacy of determination and resilience in the face of adversity.
