Masae Suzuki

Early Life and Playing Career

Masae Suzuki was born on January 21, 1957, in Chiba, Japan. She began her football journey at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries before moving to FC Jinnan, which later became known as Nissan FC Ladies, in 1985. Suzuki played as a goalkeeper and had a notable club career, including stints with Nikko Securities Dream Ladies from 1990 to 1991 and JEF United Chiba Ladies. She retired from professional play at the end of the 1991 season.

National Team Contributions

Suzuki made her debut for the Japan women's national football team on October 24, 1984, at the age of 27, in a match against Italy. Over her international career, she participated in significant tournaments, including the AFC Championship in 1986, 1989, and 1991, as well as the 1990 Asian Games. Her last appearance for the national team was during the 1991 World Cup, where she played a total of 45 matches for Japan until her retirement from international football in 1991.

Coaching Career

After hanging up her boots, Suzuki transitioned into coaching, taking the helm as manager of JEF United Ichihara in 2000. She continued to influence the team as an assistant coach until the end of the 2017 season, showcasing her dedication to the development of women's football in Japan. Notably, during the 2004 season, she made a remarkable return to the pitch as a playing manager, becoming the oldest player to compete in an L.League match at the age of 47.
