Michal Kadlec

Early Life

Michal Kadlec was born in 1984 in Vyškov, Czech Republic. His early life was significantly influenced by his father's career as a professional footballer. In 1990, when his father, Miroslav Kadlec, joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the family relocated to Germany. This move allowed Michal to learn German in kindergarten, and he continued his education in the German school system until returning to the Czech Republic in 1998 when his father signed with FK Drnovice.

Career

Kadlec began his professional football career at 1. FC Slovácko, making his league debut against Baník Ostrava. In January 2005, he transferred to AC Sparta Prague, where he played until August 2008 before moving to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. His career took a significant turn on June 14, 2013, when he joined Fenerbahçe Istanbul for a €4.5 million transfer fee, signing a lucrative three-year contract. After a successful stint in Turkey, he returned to AC Sparta Prague in 2016 and later rejoined 1. FC Slovácko in 2018, where he continued to play until announcing his retirement in May 2024.

International Career

On the international stage, Kadlec represented the Czech Republic at various youth levels, including the under-19 and under-21 teams. He made his senior debut for the national team on November 17, 2007, during a UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying match against Slovakia, where he notably scored an own goal but also contributed to the team's success. Kadlec's defensive skills were highlighted during the 2012 European Championship, where he made a crucial play to keep the Czech Republic in the tournament. His international career spanned nearly a decade, concluding in 2016.
