Naoya Kondo

Early Life

Naoya Kondo was born on October 3, 1983, in Utsunomiya, Japan. From a young age, he showed a passion for football, which led him to join the youth team of Kashiwa Reysol, a prominent club in the J1 League.

Career

Kondo began his professional career with Kashiwa Reysol in 2002, making his debut in 2003. He quickly established himself as a regular center back by 2004. However, his career faced challenges due to repeated injuries, limiting his appearances in the following years. Despite these setbacks, Kondo made a significant comeback in 2009, helping Reysol secure promotion back to J1 League after winning the J2 League in 2010. The pinnacle of his club career came in 2011 when Reysol won the J1 League title, and Kondo was honored with a Best Eleven award for his outstanding performance.

In 2016, Kondo transferred to JEF United Chiba, where he continued to play as a regular center back for three seasons. He later joined Tokyo Verdy in 2019, where he played until his retirement in December 2020.

National Team Career

Kondo also represented Japan on the international stage, being a member of the Japan U-20 national team during the 2003 World Youth Championship. He made his senior debut for the Japan national team on February 24, 2012, in a match against Iceland, marking a significant milestone in his football journey.
