Early Life

Oldřich Nejedlý was born in 1909 in Czechoslovakia and became a prominent figure in the world of football. He dedicated his life to the sport, eventually becoming one of the most celebrated players of his time. Nejedlý's journey in football began at a young age, and he quickly made a name for himself as a talented forward.

Career

Nejedlý's professional career was primarily spent at AC Sparta Prague, where he played from 1931 to 1941. During his time with the club, he made a significant impact, scoring 162 league goals in just 187 appearances. His remarkable performance helped Sparta Prague secure four Czechoslovak First League championships in 1932, 1936, 1938, and 1939, along with a Mitropa Cup victory in 1935. After leaving Sparta, he played for SK Rakovník from 1942 to 1946, where he added 18 goals to his tally, bringing his total league goals to 180 in 225 games.

On the international stage, Nejedlý represented the Czechoslovakia national team from 1931 to 1939, scoring 29 goals in 44 matches. He was a standout player in the 1934 FIFA World Cup, where he became the tournament's top goalscorer with five goals, a record officially recognized by FIFA in 2006. Nejedlý's contributions earned him the Bronze Ball as the third most outstanding player of the tournament, and he was selected for the All-Star Team.

Legacy

Nejedlý's football career came to an end due to a leg injury, but he left behind a legacy as one of Czechoslovakia's greatest footballers. He passed away in 1990 at the age of 80, during the FIFA World Cup held in Italy, a poignant reminder of his enduring connection to the sport he loved.
