Formation

Paris FC, officially known as Paris Football Club, was established in 1969 as part of a project by the French Football Federation to create a major football club in Paris. The club was founded by notable figures Fernand Sastre, Henri Patrelle, and Guy Crescent, with the ambition of reaching the top tier of French football. In 1970, Paris FC merged with Stade Saint-Germain, leading to the formation of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). However, this partnership was short-lived due to disagreements over identity and finances, resulting in a split in 1972. Paris FC managed to retain its place in Division 1, while PSG faced relegation to Division 3.

Rebuilding and Challenges

Following the split, Paris FC struggled to maintain its status among France's elite clubs. The club faced financial difficulties, ownership changes, and repeated relegations, particularly after PSG took over the Parc des Princes in 1974. Despite a brief return to Division 1 in the 1978-79 season, Paris FC was relegated again. The club underwent several rebrandings, including Racing Paris 1 and Paris FC 2000, before reverting to its original name in 2005. Under the management of Jean-Marc Pilorget, Paris FC won its Championnat de France Amateur group in 2006, marking a significant step in its recovery.

Recent Developments

After returning to the Championnat National in 2007, Paris FC spent years rebuilding its squad and infrastructure. The club achieved promotion to Ligue 2 in 2015, ending a 32-year absence from the second tier of French football. Paris FC continues to compete in Ligue 1, striving to establish itself as a prominent force in French football once again, with recent successes including being runners-up in Ligue 2 in the 2024-25 season.
