Riga FC

Formation

Riga FC, a prominent football club based in Riga, Latvia, was officially registered in April 2014. The club emerged from the merger of two local teams, FC Caramba and Dinamo Rīga, and was established just before the 2015 season. Initially competing under the name FC Caramba/Dinamo, the team utilized the license of FC Caramba, which had recently achieved promotion to the Latvian First League after a successful run in the Latvian Second League.

Breakthrough

In its inaugural season, Riga FC quickly made a name for itself by winning the Latvian First League in 2015, which earned them promotion to the Latvian Higher League. Following this success, the club officially adopted the name Riga FC, although it was legally known as 'Riga Dinamo Football Club' for a significant part of that year. The club's ascent continued when they appointed Ukrainian coach Viktor Skrypnyk in 2018, leading them to multiple championships in the Latvian Higher League in 2018, 2019, and 2020, as well as a Latvian Cup victory in 2018.

Legacy

Riga FC has established itself as a dominant force in Latvian football, with a strong youth development program through the Riga FC Academy, which includes the Šitiks Football Academy acquired in 2017. The club's honors include four Latvian Higher League championships and two Latvian Cup victories, showcasing their consistent performance in domestic competitions. As of 2026, Riga FC continues to compete at a high level, solidifying its legacy in Latvian football history.
