Romano Christian Schmid is an Austrian professional footballer known for his role as an attacking midfielder. His journey in football began in Austria, where he developed his skills and passion for the game, eventually leading him to play for various clubs and the national team.

Club Career

Schmid's professional career took off when he joined FC Red Bull Salzburg in 2017. He had a brief stint with SK Sturm Graz before moving to FC Liefering, where he honed his abilities further. In January 2019, he signed with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, marking a significant step in his career. Shortly after, he was loaned to Wolfsberger AC for the remainder of the season. By April 2022, Schmid extended his contract with Werder Bremen, solidifying his place in the team. In August 2026, he signed a four-year contract with Serie A club Frosinone, continuing his professional journey in Italy.

International Career

On the international stage, Schmid has represented Austria at various levels. He played for the Austria national under-19 team from 2017 to 2019 and progressed to the under-21 team in 2019. Schmid made his senior debut for the Austria men's national team on September 22, 2022, in a UEFA Nations League match against France. His performance earned him a spot in the squad for UEFA Euro 2024, where he scored his first international goal in a crucial match against the Netherlands. Additionally, he was selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking Austria's return to the tournament after a long absence since 1998.
