Early Life

Santiago Gabriel Salcedo González, affectionately known as Sasá, is a Paraguayan footballer born to pursue a career in sports. He began his journey in football at a young age, showcasing his talent early on and eventually representing the Paraguay national under-20 football team in 2001.

Career

Salcedo's professional career took off when he joined Cerro Porteño in 2001, where he quickly made a name for himself as a forward. His remarkable performance in the 2005 Copa Libertadores, where he emerged as the top scorer with nine goals, solidified his reputation. Following this success, he had stints with several clubs, including FC Tokyo in Japan and Newell's Old Boys in Argentina, where he was loaned after a challenging period with his coach in Japan.

In 2008, he joined River Plate at the behest of coach Diego Simeone, but after a tumultuous season, he returned to Newell's. His career continued to flourish as he moved to Club Atlético Lanús and later returned to Cerro Porteño multiple times, demonstrating his resilience and adaptability in the sport. Salcedo also had a notable international career, representing the Paraguay men's national football team from 2003 to 2014.

In 2016, he transferred to Club Libertad, marking another chapter in his ongoing journey in Paraguayan football. Throughout his career, Salcedo has been recognized as one of the maximum goal scorers in Paraguayan football history, with an impressive tally of 152 goals.
