Early Life

Shūichi Gonda is a Japanese professional footballer born in Japan, who has made a significant impact in the world of football as a goalkeeper. His journey in football began at a young age, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become a prominent player in the sport.

Career

Gonda's professional career took off when he joined FC Tokyo in 2007, where he made 244 appearances until 2016. During his time with FC Tokyo, he achieved notable success, winning the J. League Division 2 in 2011, the Emperor's Cup in 2011, the J. League Cup in 2009, and the Suruga Bank Championship in 2010. In 2010, he made his debut for the Japan men's national football team, and he went on to represent his country in the 2014 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. Gonda also played for various youth national teams, including the under-20 and under-23 squads, and was part of the Japan Olympic football team in 2012.

After leaving FC Tokyo, Gonda had a brief stint with SV Horn in Austria before returning to Japan to play for Sagan Tosu from 2017 to 2018. He then ventured abroad again, joining Portimonense S.C. in Portugal in 2019. Following a season there, he returned to Japan and signed with Shimizu S-Pulse in 2021, initially on loan, before making a permanent transfer in 2022 due to Portimonense's relegation.

Gonda's contributions to Japanese football have been recognized through various honors, including being named in the AFC Asian Cup Team of the Tournament in 2019 and the J2 League Best XI in 2023.
