Shoko Mikami

Early Life and Playing Career

Shoko Mikami was born on January 8, 1981, in Ichihara, Chiba, Japan. She began her football journey in 1996 when she joined the Nikko Securities Dream Ladies, a club that dominated the L.League by winning the championship for three consecutive years from 1996 to 1998. Unfortunately, the club disbanded in 1998 due to financial issues, prompting Mikami to transfer to Tasaki Perule FC. There, she achieved recognition by being selected for the Best Eleven in the 2001 season. In 2002, she returned to her roots by joining JEF United Ichihara, which later became JEF United Chiba. Mikami also ventured to the United States to further her career, playing for university teams from 2003 to 2006, specifically at the University of Memphis. She returned to JEF United Chiba in 2007 and played until her retirement in 2009.

National Team Career

Mikami's international career took off in November 1999 when she was selected for the Japan national team for the 1999 AFC Championship. She made her debut on November 12, 1999, scoring two goals against Nepal. Over the course of the tournament, she played three matches and netted two goals, marking a significant milestone in her international career.

Coaching Career

After hanging up her boots, Mikami transitioned into coaching, taking on the role of youth team coach at JEF United Chiba. Her leadership skills were recognized, and in 2014, she was appointed as the manager of the top team, a position she held until the end of the 2017 season. Mikami's journey from player to coach reflects her deep commitment to the sport and her desire to nurture the next generation of football talent in Japan.
