Tomoaki Makino

Early Life

Tomoaki Makino was born in Nishi-ku, Hiroshima, Japan, where he developed a passion for football from a young age. His journey in the sport began with the Japan national under-20 team, where he showcased his talent on an international stage from 2005 to 2007, including participation in the 2007 U-20 World Cup.

Professional Career

Makino's professional career kicked off in 2006 with Sanfrecce Hiroshima, where he played until 2010. His skills as a defender caught the attention of European clubs, leading to a move to 1. FC Köln in Germany, where he played from 2010 to 2012. After a brief stint with 1. FC Köln II and a loan to Urawa Red Diamonds, he returned to Urawa, where he enjoyed a successful tenure until 2021. He also represented the Japan men's national team from 2010 to 2019, earning a spot in the preliminary squad for the 2018 World Cup.

In 2022, Makino concluded his playing career with Vissel Kobe, marking 16 years in professional football. His contributions to the sport were significant, both at the club and international levels, where he was known for his defensive prowess and leadership on the field.

Managerial Career

Following his retirement, Makino transitioned into management, announcing his role as the manager of Shinagawa CC in 2024. He is set to further his managerial career with Fujieda MYFC in the J2 League starting in the 2026 season after obtaining his JFA Pro license in 2025. Makino's journey from player to manager reflects his deep commitment to the sport and his desire to shape the next generation of footballers.
