Early Life

Toshihiro Aoyama was born in Kurashiki, Japan, where he developed a passion for football from a young age. His dedication to the sport led him to pursue a professional career, ultimately becoming a prominent figure in Japanese football.

Career

Aoyama began his professional journey with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2004, where he played as a defensive midfielder. Over the years, he became a key player for the club, contributing to their success in various competitions. Notably, he helped Sanfrecce Hiroshima secure the J1 League title in 2012, 2013, and 2015, as well as the J.League Cup in 2022. His impressive performances earned him individual accolades, including the J.League MVP Award in 2015 and selections to the J.League Best XI in 2012, 2013, and 2015.

Aoyama also represented the Japan men's national football team, earning his first cap in 2013. He was part of the squad that competed in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and was named in the preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, although an injury prevented him from making the final team. After a remarkable 21-year career, Aoyama announced his retirement from football on October 20, 2024.
