Early Life

Edvaldo Izidio Neto, known as Vavá, was born in Brazil in 1934 and became one of the most celebrated footballers of his time. His journey in football began at Sport Club do Recife, where he played from 1949 to 1950, showcasing his talent as a forward. Vavá's skills quickly caught the attention of larger clubs, leading him to a remarkable career that spanned over two decades.

Career

Vavá's professional career took off when he joined CR Vasco da Gama in 1951, where he won multiple Campeonato Carioca titles. His international career began in 1955 when he earned his first cap for the Brazil national team. Vavá was a key player in Brazil's triumphs at the 1958 and 1962 FIFA World Cups, scoring a total of nine goals across both tournaments. Notably, he became the first player to score in two consecutive World Cup finals, a feat that remained unmatched until Kylian Mbappé replicated it in 2022.

After his successful stint in Brazil, Vavá moved to Europe, playing for Atlético Madrid from 1958 to 1961, where he won the Copa del Rey. He later played for Palmeiras and Club América, before concluding his career at Associação Portuguesa de Desportos in 1970. Vavá's legacy is cemented not only by his club achievements but also by his induction into the Brazilian Football Museum Hall of Fame.
