Wilhelmus Antonius van de Kerkhof, commonly known as Willy van de Kerkhof, is a former professional footballer from the Netherlands. Born into a culture rich in football, he developed a passion for the sport early in life, which would lead him to a successful career as a midfielder.

Career

Van de Kerkhof began his professional journey with FC Twente, where he played from 1970 to 1973. His talent quickly caught the attention of larger clubs, and he transferred to PSV Eindhoven in 1973, where he would spend the next 15 years. During his time at PSV, he achieved significant success, winning multiple Eredivisie titles and domestic cups, as well as the prestigious European Cup in 1988. In addition to his club success, van de Kerkhof was a key player for the Netherlands national team from 1973 to 1986, participating in two FIFA World Cups, where the team finished as runners-up in 1974 and 1978.
