Yasuharu Sorimachi

Early Life

Yasuharu Sorimachi was born in Japan and showed an early passion for football. He attended Shimizu Higashi High School, where he not only honed his skills but also led his team to victory in the national high school championship alongside notable teammates Shigeo Sawairi and Tatsuya Mochizuki. Following high school, he furthered his education at Keio University while continuing to develop his football career.

Playing Career

Sorimachi began his professional journey in 1987 with All Nippon Airways in the Japan Soccer League. His talent helped the team earn promotion to the JSL First Division in 1988. In 1992, the club transitioned into the newly formed J.League as Yokohama Flügels, where Sorimachi played until 1993, winning the Emperor's Cup that year. He then moved to Shonan Bellmare in 1994, where he enjoyed further success, winning the Emperor's Cup again in 1994 and the Asian Cup Winners' Cup in 1995. On the international stage, Sorimachi represented the Japan national team, earning four caps between 1990 and 1991, including participation in the 1990 Asian Games.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Sorimachi transitioned into coaching, taking the helm at J2 League club Albirex Niigata in 2001. He led the team to a J2 championship and promotion to the J1 League in 2003. His coaching career continued with the Japan U-23 national team, where he guided them to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Sorimachi also served as an assistant coach for the Japan national team and managed several clubs, including a return to Shonan Bellmare and Matsumoto Yamaga FC. As of 2020, he has been serving as the technical director of the Japan Football Association and was appointed general manager of Shimizu S-Pulse in 2024.
