Yukitaka Omi

Early Life

Yukitaka Omi was born on December 15, 1952, in Tokyo, Japan. His journey in football began when he joined the newly formed club Yomiuri in 1969, marking the start of a significant career in Japanese football.

Club Career

Omi's club career spanned from 1969 to 1986, during which he played as a midfielder for Yomiuri, which later became known as Tokyo Verdy. Under his influence, the club achieved remarkable success, being promoted to the Japan Soccer League Division 2 in 1972 and then to Division 1 in 1978. The pinnacle of his club achievements came in 1979 when Yomiuri won its first major title, the JSL Cup. Omi continued to contribute to the club's success, helping them secure league championships in 1983 and 1984, as well as the Emperor's Cup in 1984 and another JSL Cup in 1985. He retired from professional football in 1986.

National Team Career

Omi also made his mark on the international stage, debuting for the Japan national football team on May 23, 1978, in a match against Thailand. He was part of the squad that aimed for qualification for the 1980 Summer Olympics, representing Japan in a total of six matches until 1980.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Omi transitioned into coaching, returning to Yomiuri (later Tokyo Verdy) where he began his managerial career. He took over as manager in July 2001 but was dismissed in April 2002. In 2005, he joined Arte Takasaki, where he managed the club for one season, further contributing to the development of football in Japan.
