Yumi Obe

Early Life

Yumi Obe was born on February 15, 1975, in Sakaiminato, Japan. From a young age, she showed a passion for football, which would lead her to a remarkable career in the sport.

Career

Obe began her professional journey in 1991 when she joined Nikko Securities Dream Ladies. During her time with the club, she made a significant impact, winning the Young Player Award in her debut year and being named to the Best Eleven for four consecutive years from 1995 to 1998. Under her influence, the team clinched the L.League championship three times in a row from 1996 to 1998. However, the club faced financial difficulties and was disbanded in 1998.

Following this, Obe played for OKI FC Winds, but the club also disbanded after one season. She then moved to YKK Tohoku Ladies SC Flappers, which later became TEPCO Mareeze, where she continued to excel until her retirement in 2006. Throughout her club career, she was selected to the Best Eleven a total of seven times.

On the international stage, Obe debuted for the Japan women's national football team at just 16 years old on August 21, 1991, against China. She represented Japan in multiple World Cups and Olympic Games, including the 1991, 1995, and 2003 World Cups, as well as the 1996 and 2004 Summer Olympics. Over her international career, she played 85 matches and scored six goals, also serving as the team captain.

After retiring as a player, Obe transitioned into coaching, taking on the role of playing manager for TEPCO Mareeze during the 2006 Empress's Cup, showcasing her leadership both on and off the field.
