Formation
Újpest FC, originally known as Újpesti Dózsa, is a historic Hungarian professional football club founded in 1885, located in Budapest. At the time of its establishment, Újpest was not part of Budapest, marking the beginning of a long and storied journey in Hungarian football. The club made its debut in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I during the 1905 season, quickly establishing itself as a competitive force in Hungarian football.
Breakthrough
The club achieved its first league title in the 1929–30 season, setting the stage for a successful era. Throughout the years, Újpest FC has won the Nemzeti Bajnokság I a remarkable 20 times, with their most dominant periods occurring in the 1930s and 1970s. Notably, the late 1960s and early 1970s marked the club's most successful international phase, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 1968–69 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup against Newcastle United and a semi-final appearance in the 1973–74 European Cup, where they faced Bayern Munich.

Újpest was founded in 1885. At that time, Újpest did not belong to Budapest. Újpest played their first Nemzeti Bajnokság I match in the 1905 Nemzeti Bajnokság I season. In the 1910–11 season, they were relegated. Újpest won their first Hungarian league title in the 1929–30 season. At international level, Újpest's most successful period was in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In the 1968–69 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, they were beaten in the final by Newcastle United. In the 1973–74 European Cup, they reached the semi-finals and were eliminated by Bayern Munich.
