Formation

Ankaraspor, officially known as Sincan Belediyesi Ankaraspor Kulübü, is a Turkish professional football club founded in 1978 in Ankara. Initially established as "Ankara Belediye Spor Kulübü" (Ankara Municipality Sport Club), the club underwent several name changes, reflecting its evolving identity and focus. In 1984, it became "Ankara Büyükşehir Belediye Spor Kulübü," and later, in 1998, it was renamed "Büyükşehir Belediye Ankaraspor Kulübü." The club has diversified its activities, branching into various sports such as badminton, basketball, boxing, and more, but it has always maintained a strong focus on football.

Challenges and Changes

In 2005, Ankaraspor A.Ş. emerged as a distinct entity focusing solely on football, separating from its parent organization. The club faced significant challenges in its history, particularly in 2009 when it was demoted from the Turkish Super League due to unsportsmanlike conduct related to its relationship with Ankaragücü. This led to the cancellation of all its matches for the 2009-10 season and ultimately resulted in its expulsion from the Turkish leagues in 2010. After a period of inactivity, Ankaraspor was readmitted to the TFF First League for the 2013-14 season, marking a significant comeback in its storied history.

Recent Developments

In 2014, the club briefly changed its name to Osmanlıspor, which it retained until 2020, before reverting to its original name, Ankaraspor. The club continues to compete in the TFF Second League, striving to regain its former prominence in Turkish football.
