Clube de Futebol Os Belenenses, commonly known as Os Belenenses, is a professional football club based in Lisbon, Portugal, founded in 1919. It is one of the oldest sports clubs in the country and has a rich history in Portuguese football. The club's name translates to "The ones from Belém," reflecting its geographical roots in the Belém neighborhood of Lisbon. The team plays its home matches at the Estádio do Restelo, which has a capacity of 19,856 seats.

Early Achievements

Belenenses quickly made a name for itself in Portuguese football, reaching its first Campeonato final in 1926 and winning its first title the following year. The club secured its second championship in 1929 and a third in 1933, establishing itself as one of the "Big Four" clubs in Portugal. Notably, the club's early years were marked by the emergence of José Manuel Soares, affectionately known as Pepe, who became a legendary figure after a dramatic match against Benfica.

Primeira Liga Success

The pinnacle of Belenenses' achievements came in the 1945-46 season when they won their only Primeira Liga title, finishing just one point ahead of Benfica. This victory was historic as it marked the first time a club outside the traditional Big Three won the title. Belenenses also enjoyed success in domestic cup competitions, winning the Taça de Portugal three times and the Campeonato de Portugal three times as well.
