1912–1945: Early football and Uzinele Astra
Organised football appeared in Brașov before the First World War, and during the 1920s, the city's leading clubs were Brașovia Brașov, which reached the national championship semi-finals in 1924–25 and Colțea Brașov, Romanian champions in 1927–28. The club that later became FC Brașov originated with UAB (Uzinele Astra Brașov), the team of the Astra industrial works. UAB entered the Brașov District Championship in 1939–40 and won the district competition the following season, earning the right to play in Divizia B. The national championship was, however, suspended during the Second World War. Uzinele Astra Brașov's biggest rival during the 1940s and 1950s was CFR Brașov. In the 1941–42 season, UAB lost the Brașov District Championship title to CFR on goal difference. During the unofficial wartime competitions, UAB came close to promotion to Divizia A in 1942–43, losing the promotion play-off to Uzinele Metalurgice Cugir. The following season was interrupted as the war reached Romania and Brașov suffered several Allied air raids.
1945–1970: Silviu Ploeșteanu era
UAB resumed competitive football after the Second World War, finishing 4th in the 1945–46 Brașov District Championship and 3rd in Series XII of the first post-war season of Divizia C, in 1946–47.
