Formation

Football Club Crotone S.r.l., commonly referred to as Crotone, is an Italian football club founded on 20 September 1910 in Crotone, Calabria. The club's origins trace back to the ancient Greek settlement of Kroton, reflecting a proud heritage that is often celebrated through their banners and slogans featuring Greek icons. Initially, the first team, Società sportiva Crotona, did not adhere to the Italian Football Federation, and it wasn't until 1921 that the club began participating in various minor leagues, including the Prima Divisione, which would later become known as Serie C.

Historical Challenges and Resilience

Following World War II, the club underwent significant changes, with Unione Sportiva Crotone taking over and competing in Serie C for seven seasons. However, the club faced challenges, including relegation to Serie D in 1963 and a subsequent bankruptcy that led to the formation of Associazione Sportiva Crotone, which began competing in the eighth division. Despite these setbacks, Crotone demonstrated resilience, achieving promotion back to Serie C2 in the mid-1980s and changing its name to Kroton Calcio.

Modern Era

The club continued to navigate through ups and downs, including another bankruptcy that resulted in the establishment of Football Club Crotone Calcio. Over the years, Crotone has built a reputation in Italian football, currently competing in Serie C, and continues to honor its rich history and cultural roots in the region. The club plays its home games at Stadio Ezio Scida, which has a capacity of 16,647, serving as a testament to its enduring presence in Italian football.
