Formation

Fortuna Düsseldorf, officially known as Düsseldorfer Turn- und Sportverein Fortuna 1895 e.V., is a German football club based in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club's origins trace back to the establishment of the gymnastics club Turnverein Flingern on May 5, 1895. In 1911, two other clubs, Düsseldorfer Fußballklub Spielverein and FK Alemania 1911, merged to form Düsseldorfer Fußball-Club Fortuna 1911. This merger marked the beginning of a new era for the club, which played its first season in the Westdeutschen Spielverband in 1913-14. The club underwent another transformation in 1919 when TV Flingern joined to create the current entity, Düsseldorfer Turn- und Sportverein Fortuna.

Early Success and Championships

The late 1920s saw Fortuna Düsseldorf achieve significant success, winning its first Bezirksliga title in 1927 and sending its first player, Ernst Albrecht, to the Germany national team in 1928. The club continued to excel, capturing a second Bezirksliga title in 1929 and achieving its greatest triumph in 1933 by winning the German football championship against Schalke 04. Remarkably, Fortuna became the first team to win the title without conceding a goal in the final rounds, defeating teams like Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz and Eintracht Frankfurt along the way.

Fortuna Düsseldorf has a rich history in German football, having competed in various leagues including the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, and 3. Liga. The club's legacy is marked by its early achievements and contributions to the sport, establishing itself as a notable name in German football history. Today, Fortuna continues to compete in the 3.
