Early Life

Friedrich Koncilia was born in Klagenfurt, Austria, where he began his journey in football at a young age. He made his debut for local side Austria Klagenfurt at just 17 years old, showcasing his talent as a goalkeeper early on in his career.

Career

Koncilia's professional career spanned over two decades, during which he played for several clubs. After starting at Austria Klagenfurt, he moved to SV Wattens in 1969. His most notable period was with FC Wacker Innsbruck, where he enjoyed eight successful years, winning multiple titles including the Austrian Bundesliga and the Austrian Cup. He briefly played for R.S.C. Anderlecht in Belgium but returned to Austria after just eight appearances. He concluded his playing career at FK Austria Wien, where he continued to add to his accolades until a back injury forced him to retire at the age of 37.

In addition to his club success, Koncilia was a key player for the Austria men's national football team from 1970 to 1985. He earned 84 caps, making him one of the most capped players in Austrian history. He represented his country in two FIFA World Cups, in 1978 and 1982, further solidifying his legacy in Austrian football.
