Gustavo Miguel Zapata is a retired Argentine footballer born in Argentina, who made a significant impact in the world of football as a midfielder. His career began in the late 1980s, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become a notable player in Argentine football.

Career

Zapata's professional career kicked off at Club Atlético River Plate, where he played from 1989 to 1993. He then moved to Japan to join Yokohama F. Marinos, where he showcased his skills until 1996. Upon returning to Argentina, he played for San Lorenzo de Almagro from 1996 to 2000, followed by a stint at Chacarita Juniors until 2001. Throughout his club career, Zapata also represented the Argentina men's national football team from 1991 to 1998, participating in prestigious tournaments such as the Copa América in 1991 and 1993, and the 1998 FIFA World Cup qualification.

After retiring as a player, Zapata transitioned into coaching, starting as an assistant manager at Nueva Chicago in the 2002/03 season. He followed Néstor Gorosito to various clubs, including Lanús and River Plate, where he had multiple roles, including caretaker manager. His coaching journey continued with positions at Independiente Rivadavia and Racing Club's reserve team, demonstrating his commitment to developing future talents in Argentine football.
