Hiroshige Yanagimoto

Early Life

Hiroshige Yanagimoto was born on October 15, 1972, in Higashiosaka, Japan. He developed a passion for football at a young age, which led him to pursue a career in the sport after graduating from high school.

Career

Yanagimoto began his professional career in 1991 when he joined Mazda, which later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima. He quickly established himself as a regular player, primarily playing as a right side-back. During his time with the club, he contributed to their success, helping them secure second place in the 1994 J1 League and winning the Emperor's Cup in 1995 and 1996. In 1999, he transferred to Gamba Osaka, where he continued to make an impact on the field until 2002. The following year, he moved to Cerezo Osaka, where he played until his retirement at the end of the 2006 season.

In addition to his club career, Yanagimoto was also a member of the Japan national team. He made his debut on January 8, 1995, against Argentina during the King Fahd Cup and became a regular player for the national side. He played in all matches during the 1996 Asian Cup but faced a setback in 1997 when an injury led to his exclusion from the 1998 World Cup qualification matches. Over his international career, he earned 30 caps for Japan.

Personal Life

In July 2005, Yanagimoto married Japanese actress Atsuko Okamoto, but their marriage ended in divorce in July 2017. Despite the ups and downs in his personal life, Yanagimoto remains a respected figure in Japanese football, known for his contributions both on and off the pitch.
