Early Life
Hiroyuki Usui was born on August 4, 1953, in Fujieda, Japan. He pursued higher education at Waseda University, where he honed his skills in football, setting the stage for a successful career in the sport.
Career
Usui began his professional journey in 1976 when he joined Hitachi, a club that would later become known as Kashiwa Reysol. During his time with Hitachi, he made a significant impact, helping the team secure the JSL Cup in 1976. Over the course of his career, he played 200 games and scored 85 goals in Division 1, earning accolades such as being named to the Best Eleven in 1980 and 1982. Usui also had a notable international career, debuting for the Japan national team on February 12, 1974, against Singapore. He participated in the 1978 World Cup qualification and the 1978 Asian Games, ultimately playing 38 matches and scoring 15 goals for his country until 1984.
Coaching Career
After retiring from professional play in 1988, Usui transitioned into coaching, taking the helm at Hitachi in 1989. After retirement, Usui became a manager for Hitachi in 1989. Although the club finished at the bottom place in 1989–90 season and was relegated to Division 2, the club won the champions in Division 2 in 1990–91 season and was promoted to Division 1. He resigned in 1992.
