Kozo Tashima

Early Life

Kozo Tashima was born on November 21, 1957, in Amakusa District, Kumamoto, Japan. He showed an early passion for football, which led him to play for Urawa-South High School, where he achieved significant success by winning the Japanese high school championship in 1976. Following his high school career, Tashima pursued higher education in sports science at the University of Tsukuba, where he continued to develop his skills and knowledge of the game.

Career

Tashima's professional career began when he joined Furukawa Electric in 1980 after graduating from university. During his time with the club, he made a notable impact, playing as a forward and contributing to the team's success, including a second-place finish in the 1982 JSL Cup. Over his career, he played 39 league games and scored 6 goals before retiring in 1982.

In addition to his club career, Tashima also represented the Japan men's national football team. He made his debut on June 27, 1979, against Malaysia while still a student at the University of Tsukuba. Throughout his international career, he played in 7 matches and scored 1 goal until 1980.

Legacy

Beyond his playing days, Tashima has made significant contributions to football administration. He currently serves as the president of the Japan Football Association and the East Asian Football Federation. His dedication to the sport was recognized in 2020 when he was awarded the Medal with Blue Ribbon, highlighting his impact on Japanese football.
