Early Life

Magno Alves de Araújo was born in Aporá, Bahia, Brazil, where he began his journey in football. Known for his skills as a forward, he quickly made a name for himself in the sport, showcasing his talent from a young age.

Career

Alves' professional career took off in 1996 when he joined Independente Futebol Clube, and he soon moved to Criciúma Esporte Clube in 1997. His breakthrough came at Fluminense F.C., where he played from 1998 to 2003, making 265 appearances and scoring 111 goals, including a memorable five-goal match against Santa Cruz that earned him the nickname "Magnata." After a stint in the K-League with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC, he moved to Japan, playing for Oita Trinita and later Gamba Osaka, where he contributed to their championship success in 2006.

In 2007, Alves transitioned to Al Ittihad FC in Saudi Arabia, but disciplinary issues led to his departure. He returned to Brazil in 2010, signing with Ceará Sporting Club, where he became the club's sixth all-time leading scorer with 103 goals in 224 matches. Over his career, he amassed over 483 goals in 986 official matches. After announcing his retirement in 2022, Alves made headlines again in 2025 when he returned to the pitch at age 49 to play alongside his son, Pedrinho, for Atlético Cearense.

Legacy

Magno Alves has left a significant mark on Brazilian football, with numerous accolades including the Brazilian League Top Scorer in 2000 and the J.League Top Scorer in 2006. His honors also include winning the Rio State Championship in 2002 and multiple titles with Ceará, solidifying his legacy as a prolific striker and a beloved figure in the sport.
