Manabu Saito

Early Life

Manabu Saito was born in Kanagawa, Japan, where he developed a passion for football from a young age. His talent was evident early on, leading him to be selected for the Japan national under-17 football team, where he participated in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup, playing in two matches.

Career

Saito's professional career began with Yokohama F. Marinos, where he played from 2008 to 2017, establishing himself as a key player. During his time there, he contributed to the team's success, including winning the Emperor's Cup in 2013. In 2011, he had a brief stint with Ehime FC before returning to the national stage, representing Japan's under-23 team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where Japan finished in fourth place.

In 2013, Saito made his debut for the Japan men's national football team during the East Asian Cup against China. He continued to represent Japan until 2016, earning six caps and scoring one goal. After leaving Yokohama, he played for several clubs, including Kawasaki Frontale, where he won the J1 League in 2018 and 2020, and Nagoya Grampus, where he won the J.League Cup in 2021. In 2022, he joined Suwon Samsung Bluewings FC and later moved to Newcastle Jets FC in 2023, before signing with Vegalta Sendai.

Throughout his career, Saito has been recognized for his contributions on the field, earning a spot in the J. League Best Eleven in 2016. His journey reflects not only his skills as a winger but also his dedication to the sport, making him a notable figure in Japanese football history.
